Description
Taran Brighthoof is a centaur, appearing to be a meld of man and horse. He is powerfully built, with long wavy locks of hair in a deep brown cascading down over his back and shoulders and bright forest-green eyes. It's not a horse's mane, but it does a credible job of imitating it. His horse fur and tail are the same shade as his hair except for a blaze of white just off the center of his lower chest.
Although the parts of him that are horse have fur enough to keep him warm, his human upper body is as bare as that of any normal human. To keep other humans from considering him a total savage (which they normally think anyway) he normally wears a short shirt of hard-wearing cloth, carefully dyed to forest shades. Oddly enough, his hooves appear to be shod--something that one would not think a centaur would allow...
Two sizable swords sit crossed on his back, one hilt above each shoulder. A powerful-looking composite longbow is slung (with quiver) carefully with them so as not to hinder the blades. A large and well-constructed shield hangs from his left foreshoulder, which might prompt the viewer to ask how he plans on using two blades together with a shield.

Personality
Taran is a creature of the wild, for all that he's equally as intelligent as any human, and his intent has always been to make himself into a four-legged storm of the forest. As the storm is often unpredictable, so too are his actions (often, anyway).
His training is also in the wild, and so although he will look for the greater good, this is often from his own particular viewpoint. A human's life against that of a tree, or a forest animal? Likely a tough call for him, and it could go either way...

Background
Have you ever known a child who was just fascinated by thunderstorms?
Taran was one of those children. Even as a young colt he would often just stand at the door of his parent's hut for hours on end, watching a passing storm wreak its havoc on the local plants. He enjoyed the power and sheer unstoppable strength of the storm, and as he grew (and disregarded his parents' requests that he come inside) he spent many a wet day outside, gambolling in the pounding rain.
One day, the young centaur vowed as he watched the latest storm leave, he would make himself into something like that storm. A force of nature, unstoppable in its strength.
And so it was that he began learning the craft of the forest. As he did so, he found even more admirable qualities in the storms he so loved--not only did they destroy, but they also caused life to grow anew. Rain cleansed the air and brought forth new life from the soil. Lightning destroyed--but in its destruction and even in the fires it could occasionally start, it gave room to new life.
And so Taran set out to become like the storm, as his new training now showed him--trying to become an unstoppable force of nature, but one that worked for nature, and for good.
